In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to overlook the subtle miracles that unfold around us—what I like to call “God moments.” These instances may seem like coincidences, but I’ve come to believe that they are God’s way of remaining anonymous, leaving small but profound marks on our lives. All we need to do is open our eyes and recognize the divine presence in everything we do.
Recently, as I faced knee replacement surgery, I encountered a God moment that left an indelible mark on my heart. The day before my scheduled surgery, I received a desperate email from a father struggling with his teenage daughter’s self-destructive behavior. The mother, though physically present, was emotionally absent, and the daughter’s attempts to reach out went unanswered.
In that critical moment, I faced a choice. Despite being on the brink of surgery and unable to offer ongoing support via email, I felt a nudge to do something extraordinary: make a phone call. Stepping outside my comfort zone, I dialed the father’s number, introducing myself and explaining my circumstances.
His disbelief was palpable—why would someone about to undergo surgery reach out to a stranger in need? As he poured out his story, it became clear that this was a divine encounter, a God moment in the making.
The father had taken his daughter to the emergency room, consulted with professionals, and crafted a plan for her well-being. Yet, due to a waiting list at the recommended facility, they faced an agonizing delay. Desperate for help, he stumbled upon the Motherless Daughters Ministry, and that’s where our paths crossed.
In that moment, I sensed a purpose beyond a simple phone call. I asked for his permission to call him back, and immediately thought of a retired mental health counselor I had spoken to earlier. She, too, was ready to rejoin the ministry. With her expertise, she could guide this father to resources he might not have known about.
Upon reaching out to the retired counselor, she willingly agreed to assist. When I called the father back, delivering the news of this unexpected lifeline, he was overcome with gratitude and disbelief. It was a moment where God’s presence was unmistakable, working through ordinary individuals to offer solace in a time of despair.
This experience taught me to be attuned to the nudges of the Holy Spirit, to recognize and act on God moments as they arise. In our busy lives, it’s easy to miss these opportunities, but when we open our hearts and eyes, we can witness the divine at work.
So, I pose a question to you: where are the God moments in your life? Take a moment to reflect, to open your eyes, and see the divine weaving through your everyday experiences. Let’s start a movement of sharing our God moments, creating a community where we celebrate the extraordinary within the ordinary.
I eagerly await your stories. Where did you see God working today? Let’s inspire each other and encourage a world where God moments are not just noticed but cherished and shared.
