Random and Profound Thoughts

By: Cindy Stepanek

* Each week I will be posting a scripture passage from my quiet time, along with my random, but profound thoughts on the passage. RAPTs. Enjoy!

Scripture Passage: Amos 7

I love how Amos responds to Amaziah when he tries to kick him out of the country. Look at verses 12 to 17 again.

1) Amos doesn’t back down. He doesn’t apologize and say, “Oh great and mighty Amaziah, please forgive me. I am so sorry I have offended you with my politically incorrect speaking.”

2) He doesn’t try to convince Amaziah that he is credible. He doesn’t bring a resume of all the things he has done.

3) Amos saw himself as a shepherd and a man that cared for fig trees until the Lord gave him a different job. (It would be interesting to know if Amos argued with God before he finally decided to do what he was told.)

4) Amos had a job to do and he was going to do it. He didn’t care what anyone thought.

5) His attitude reminds me of a quote from Dr. David Jeremiah that one of my dear friends posted on FB today. “Truth is true whether anyone believes it or not. Truth is not touched by our emotions, opinions or perceptions.”

6) Amos just keeps right on in verse 17 by saying “This is what the Lord says.” In other words, Amaziah, “You didn’t like what the Lord said before, so listen up and I will make it close and personal.”

I wish I were as bold as Amos.

My One
I cannot be afraid of a God who answers my questions in a way I can understand.

My Five
I am thankful for time spent with my husband.
I am thankful for a real dinner with Jeff.
I am thankful for a beautiful day.
I am thankful for spring flowers.
I am thankful for hope.

Would you like to share your five?

Dear Lord, please help me to hear the truth, to see the truth and believe it. Help me to live like I see, hear and believe it. Love me
